California Breeze
Project Name: California Breeze
Location: Pasadena, Los Angeles, California
Site Area: Approximately 7,000 sq ft
Service Type:garden design
This newly constructed garden in Pasadena represents a seamless collaboration between landscape and architecture, designed concurrently with the local architectural team to achieve a unified vision of modern Californian living. Spanning approximately 7,000 square feet, the “California Breeze” project embodies the relaxed, sun-soaked elegance characteristic of Southern California, blending structured design with organic flow.
The front garden responds both to civic guidelines and aesthetic ambition through a minimalist, linear layout. Utilizing warm-toned limestone and sleek polished concrete paving, the space balances formal clarity with tactile richness. A mature camphor tree is thoughtfully incorporated into the composition, providing natural screening while enhancing the garden’s architectural presence. This approach ensures the streetscape remains harmonious while introducing a layer of refined privacy and visual depth.
Moving to the rear, the garden unfolds as a curated retreat designed for recreation and relaxation. The layout strategically zones different activity areas—including a swimming pool, a plunge pool, and a pickleball court—into a cohesive, resort-like environment. Circulation paths and planting beds connect these functional zones, creating layered sightlines and a dynamic yet intuitive flow. Drought-tolerant native and adaptive plants further reinforce the regional sense of place, while adding texture, color, and ecological resilience.
Throughout the project, material continuity and spatial sequencing reinforce the theme of effortless indoor-outdoor living. By integrating architecture, landscape, and local context, “California Breeze” stands as a testament to thoughtful, holistic design—a private oasis that captures the light, leisure, and layered beauty of California.
