Linear Haven Residence: Integrating Architecture and Landscape

 Linear Haven Residence

This project, situated within Sydney’s leafy Kuringgai precinct, represents a fully integrated approach to architecture and landscape. Working in close coordination with a local architectural firm from the earliest stages, our landscape design extends from Development Application (DA) through to Construction Certificate (CC), ensuring a seamless and cohesive outdoor environment tailored to the site’s distinct linear form and natural context.

The design is guided by a strong linear garden concept that responds to both the elongated footprint and a 4-meter grade change from south to north. At the front, the landscape meets council requirements while introducing a refined, contemporary arrival sequence. A series of floating steps gracefully negotiates the elevation, creating a modern and processional journey from the street to the architectural entrance.

Along the side garden, an ecological pond adjacent to the home office provides a tranquil visual focus, blending biodiversity with daily enjoyment. To the rear, the terrain is cleverly shaped to establish a multi-level alfresco zone, integrating a swimming pool, pool bar, and generous entertaining terrace—a dedicated space for family gatherings and leisure. Low retaining walls are utilized to form planted terraces, adding rich textural layers and depth to the experience.

At the rear boundary, three existing mature trees are preserved and framed within a naturalistic clearing of gravel and lawn, introducing an organic counterpoint to the garden’s structured lines. Through deliberate spatial sequencing, material clarity, and a balance of built form with retained greenery, this garden achieves both modern sophistication and a tangible connection to its bushland setting—a layered, livable landscape crafted for everyday enjoyment and lasting appeal.
