Velvet Garden
Project Name: Velvet Garden
Location: Azusa, Los Angeles, California
Site Area: Approximately 2,000 sq ft
Service Type: Comprehensive Landscape Renovation Design
Situated in Azusa, this 2,000-square-foot garden transformation project was designed to revitalize the outdoor space while fully respecting the existing architecture. Through in-depth consultation with the client, we developed a clear vision: to create a serene, functional extension of the home that balances refined simplicity with organic warmth.
The front garden was thoughtfully edited to introduce a sense of arrival that is both elegant and alive. Centered around a mature jacaranda tree, the design employs clean-lined concrete paving to guide movement toward the rear, establishing an open, uncluttered atmosphere that feels generous yet intimately connected to the neighborhood streetscape.
In the rear, the compact space is intelligently organized into a cohesive layout that incorporates a soothing water feature, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, and a spacious timber deck for lounging and dining. Each functional zone is carefully scaled and strategically placed to allow for smooth circulation and visual continuity, proving that thoughtful design can maximize both utility and atmosphere within a modest footprint.
Natural materials, soft ambient lighting, and a palette of drought-tolerant flowering plants further enhance the garden’s relaxed, immersive quality. By blending practicality with a palpable sense of calm, this renovated courtyard does not merely serve as an outdoor area—it performs as a true secondary living space, inviting the homeowners to unwind, entertain, and reconnect with nature in the comfort of their own home.
